Online Qualitative Panels

As one of Survation’s research offerings, we host bespoke online qualitative panels to gather the views and experiences of individuals. Our reach is expansive. Low income households, parents of children of particular ages… we can conduct qualitative research with any audience.

How it works

Participants are invited to join the online panel and take part in a variety of tasks and activities. The panel is typically ‘closed’ so that participants cannot see the posts of other people, ensuring they feel open to share their personal experiences and perspectives with us – ideal for sensitive and challenging topics, such as finances, housing, and health. This is done in their own time in the comfort of their own home so panel members are relaxed to share information with us, including video clips, voice notes, and photos.

BBC Bitesize Parents’ Toolkit case study:

Over the past few years with the BBC, we have built various panels of parents of primary and secondary school children to provide their experience and advice for fellow parents across England, Scotland, and Wales as part of the BBC Bitesize Parents’ Toolkit. Each parent panel consists of approximately 30 parents from different locations across the UK who come from various backgrounds. Panellists have various household incomes, ethnicities, ages, relationship statuses, and sexualities to garner different perspectives and represent the different types of parents and households that exist. Parents with children with special and educational needs were also included to capture a range of experiences in school and home life.

Every few months, parents log into the panel and answer a set of questions pertaining to their experiences and any advice, and tips and tricks, that they want to share with other parents. We also ask parents to share images of them and their families which are relevant to specific questions or the general theme. Panellists are not able to see other panellists’ responses, which are analysed by sub-theme and question before being published. To date, parents have been asked about a wide range of topics, from making friends with other parents to getting their children back into a school routine and talking with them about their future career options.
