Scots support a referendum asking their views once Brexit negotiations are complete

New polling by Survation on behalf of Scotland for a People’s Vote shows that people in Scotland would support holding a referendum asking the public their view once Brexit negotiations are complete.

People aged 16+ in Scotland were asked whether they would support or oppose holding a People’s Vote – a referendum – asking the public their view once the UK Government’s negotiations over the terms of Britain’s exit from the European Union are complete. Nearly half (46%) of respondents said they would support holding a referendum, while a third (33%) said they would oppose it and one in five (20%) said ‘don’t know’. Support for a referendum was particularly high among younger age groups and those who voted to Remain in the EU in the 2016 EU referendum.

When asked how they would vote if there was a referendum tomorrow on whether the UK should remain a member of the EU, 63% of people in Scotland said they would vote to Remain, while 37% said they would vote to Leave.

Finally, we asked how Scots thought the UK would vote overall if there was another referendum on whether the UK should remain a member of the European Union. The majority (54%) of respondents thought that the UK overall would vote to Remain, with just under a third (31%) of respondents saying that they think the UK overall would vote to Leave and 15% saying ‘don’t know’.

Survation polled 1,012 people aged 16+ in Scotland to find out their latest attitudes towards Brexit. Fieldwork was conducted between 29th – 30th October 2018 on behalf of Scotland for a People’s Vote. Full tables can be found here.
